Cotton, thread, apple trees
Normandy, France lives with the scars & consequences of war. Evidence can be seen daily in the landscape, architecture, cemeteries and memorials that are present in every village. Despite this the people of the region are not burdened by fear. They continue to live with this legacy, bequest with the knowledge of conflict and destruction. Unknown is inspired by this endurance. The apple trees in this small orchard have been maimed, manipulated and controlled; yet, they continue to produce and thrive. The wrappings highlight the profile of the trees with their knobs, twists, manipulations and amputations. The bandages also reference healing.
* Wrapping were removed after a week to prevent moisture from being trapped against the tree’s bark.
