About the Mapping series
As a nomadic artist, Hovey relies heavily upon maps and online research before embarking on her travels.
The Map works are based on screen shots taken from google map of cities where Hovey has lived and created artwork. The digital data from google was then minimized and abstracted. Each remaining pixel from the digital image was recreated with paint that was sliced into individual squares and reassembled as a physical replica of the screen image. The pieced together picture of each city was then flooded and whitewashed.
Each city represented in the series is currently being affected by the presence or absence of a natural water source.
